When Steve Irby invented the first KICKER® on 1980, this heralded the next generation of compact high performance car audio systems. This first and original Kicker features not only the currently up to the minute design, it was also tailored ultimately designed for the purpose of automotive use. The subwoofers were not the bass crunching, ear deafening but intelligible SPLs, it featured clean cut sound, amidst heart pounding bass. And that’s how Kicker became one of the primary choices for car audio systems.
Currently, Kicker is still a magnificent product line of the company Stillwater Designs, in Stillwater Oklahoma, that’s founded and presided by Steve Irby. And just like that original Kicker system, Stillwater offers the richest catalog of audio systems that time after time would raise the general populace’s expectations for audio performance. And with a price range that’s geared towards the mid level market, it’s really no wonder why many seem to think that Kicker is the only “best bang for the buck” audio system currently in the market.
Kicker’s and Stillwater Design’s strong element in audio innovation did start deeply. Stillwater Designs started as a two man joint effort in 1973, hand building several musical and audio instrument and systems that are to be used on churches, auditoriums and entertainers. What started strictly locally became renowned as their expertise became widespread. When the duo successfully deigned what would become the first ever Kicker audio system, it was clear then. Stillwater Designs was destined for prominence.
Understanding that much of Stillwater Design’s success alludes to the Original KICKER®, the inventors then concentrated on the sound system products, specifically for car audio to supplant the needs of the ever growing market of car audio system. By applying the same schema, the same research, the same design, each further release of the Kicker subwoofers strengthened its position on the top market for car audio. If you want to view Kicker subwoofer reviews, you will be led to numerous credible sites that offer these reviews of the winning product.
And the two manned factory grew into a far reaching International Corporation that payrolls more than 200 skillful technicians and sound engineers on a manufacturing site that covers more than a quarter million of square feet.
Here are some of those high performance Kicker car audio subwoofers sold by Stillwater Designs.
Kicker Solo Baric L7 Series 12” Subwoofer With Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coils
The Kicker Solo Baric subwoofers may be the best subwoofer in the market today. It’s a feature of the best in subwoofers: from the cone to the surround to the dust cap, all are there with a bigger purpose to contribute. This specific Kicker Solo Baric is a 12” subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils, as much as you can get on its name. But what it has that’s out of sight is its materials and design employed –one of the best. It has a SoloKon aluminum treated composite cone surrounded by a Santoprene surround. What you have is the right amount of stiffness over-available in Kevlar and under-available in paper. The Santropene surround allows cone excursion to the highest level. The cast aluminum basket is for the purpose of lesser weight and non bulky form without losing structural integrity. It’s completed with a frequency response of 20 – 100 Hz and a sensitivity of 88.84 dB. It costs $400 but if you compare it to other high end subwoofers of its category you’d be surprised that the Kicker Solo Baric is actually quite cheap.
Kicker Comp 10” Subwoofer With 4Ω
At only $90, this Kicker subwoofer kicks heavy ass. Its 10” subwoofer, meaning, that aside from hearing its clean cut and loud sound even on high volumes, you’ll also “feel” the thud it produces. And it doesn’t cost as much as those overhyped brand X. The secret is by using cheaper alternative materials and cheaper production costs. The cone is made of polymineral that has double stitched foam surround. Everyone knows that polymineral foam provides the lowest bass, because of its innate properties: not too stiff and won’t produce that ringing common to metal diaphragms.
I always love my Kickers. They’re the sort that do well whatever arrangements you employ. Especially the Kicker Solo Baric subwoofers, you’d be surprised how a 12” boom box can generate so much noise.
